Amazon Issues Prime Day Scam Warning
Prime Day is one of the biggest online shopping events of the year. Amazon officially hosts two Prime Days, one in early July and another in early November. Each event caters to different shopping needs, from back-to-school deals to early holiday sales. Amazon is warning Prime members to be cautious about communications that appear to come from the company.
Shoppers aren’t the only ones hunting for deals. Scammers are too. Recently, scammers have been impersonating Amazon through random text messages, claiming to confirm packages or renew memberships. Some even make phone calls pretending to be Amazon representatives. Especially during the busy shopping season, you might receive strange messages saying your package is lost or your account needs attention.
Amazon’s official warning includes the following red flags to watch for:
- Scammers may ask you to click on a link in an email or text message. Do not click. Delete the message.
- They may try to start a conversation to get you to reveal personal information like account credentials, banking details, or verification codes. Do not share anything. Hang up and block the number.
- Always use the official Amazon app or website to check your account or track packages.
- If something feels off, trust your instincts. It probably is.
