So many cords, so many acronyms. Just what does USB mean? Universal Serial Bus is the official name for a series of physical connections that allow data exchange and delivery of power between many types of electronic devices.
You’ve likely used various USB cords and connections many times if you’ve ever plugged in your smartphone to charge, or transferred files between devices using an external thumb drive or other storage device. USB Type A is still one of the most common connectors (see the top-left of the image above for a visual reference). However, USB Type C is becoming more and more commonplace as it offers more features like the ability to transmit video content and quickened device charging.
