Planning a trip should be exciting, not stressful, but hotel scams can catch travelers off guard before they even arrive. Some scammers create fake booking websites or ads that look official, while others may call your room pretending to be the front desk and ask you to "verify" your credit card information.

It's also smart to watch for smaller scams during your stay, like fake Wi-Fi networks, delivery flyers slipped under the door, or unexpected changes after checkout. Before booking or sharing payment information, take a minute to confirm you're using the hotel's official website, check with the front desk in person, and review your final bill.

Hotel Scam Examples:

  • Fake booking sites: Lookalike websites or ads that collect payments for rooms that may not exist.
  • Front desk calls: Scammers pretending to be hotel staff ask for credit cars details over the phone.
  • Fake Wi-Fi: Networks that look official but may be used to steal personal information.
  • Delivery flyers: Fake menus or flyers that collect your card number when you place an order.
  • Unexpected charges: Extra fees that show up after checkout if you don't review your bill.

A little caution can go a long way. If something feels off, pause and verify before clicking, paying or sharing your personal information.
